Project Pitch
Members of the group: Maddie, Claire, Kattie, Adiana, Helana
Our project is called “Sculptures at Carleton”. We plan to produce 3D models of a few art sculptures on campus using photogrammetry in Agisoft Metashape and Sketchfab and map them using ArcGIS. We will also provide some information about the sculptures on the map. So far, we are thinking about including the Carleton Arch outside of the library, Jo-ryo-en in the Japanese Garden, Fountain outside of Boliou Hall, and some other art pieces on campus. We also will map and take pictures of some pieces like the tapestry in the library for which photogrammetry would be less useful. We will research in the Perlman Museum and the College Archives to collect a general history of the sculptures on campus. We will store most of our data on a spreadsheet, map and analyze it using ArcGIS, and create models with the photogrammetry software. We will also present our information, embedded map, and models (using Sketchfab) in a WordPress site. One project we are using as a model for what we plan to do is Modeling Mesoamerica from Stanford University Archaeology Collections, which models artifacts from Mexico and Central America.
Group Charter
Shared Values, Goals, and Expectations:
- Meeting together outside of class and being able to go to the locations around campus as a group.
- Accepting responsibility and dedicating yourself to your work in the project.
- Communicating with the group and responding to group chat communications.
- Communicating with the group if you are having issues with meeting expectations.
Group roles:
- Maddie – 3d modeling (cleaning up models), photogrammetry, and research, and writing blurbs
- Claire – wordpress editing and setting up the website, embedding, helping with data/etc
- Kattie – ArcGIS, taking photos, trying to make photogrammetry work on my computer if we need it, adding to spreadsheet
- Adiana – TBD
- Helana – ArcGIS + research + 3D Modeling
This is a really cool idea! It would be interesting to see where all of the sculptures on campus are and the histories behind them. I wonder if all of them were built/established around the same time or separate times? I am also curious as to if the sculptures are similar or connected in any way, or if they are all unrelated.
I think this idea is awesome. Having a digital way to see all the sculptures on campus is really cool. I think combining the photogrammetry with the ArcGIS is a great way to convey information both about the sculptures and so people can see where they actually are on campus. I wonder if any of the sculptures will be particularly hard to do photogrammetry of, like having weird angles that make pictures hard. None come to mind off the top of my head though.
