Component 1: Project Update and Team Charter

The members of our group are Anthony Baldenegro, Marcus Merkelbach, Ntense Obono, and Jacob Ventura. We plan to do our DGAH final project on the Carleton football team statistics from 2004 to 2021 in order to analyze which statistical categories correlate most with number of games won each season. All of the data can be found on the Carleton football statistics web page. The data is in HTML format, so we will take the numbers and organize it into excel to do further analysis. We will incorporate lessons that we learned from Lin Winton in analyzing data and strive to provide meaningful visualizations. Additionally, this includes cleaning the data as well. We will present the results in multiple data visualizations comparing the team statistics with the number of wins in the season. That data will tell us which statistics are most important to help a team win. All four of us participate on the football team together, so we have high expectations for each other on the field, but more importantly, in the classroom. We expect that we all do the assigned work in a timely manner and do it to the best of our abilities. Disagreements are inevitable, so we will communicate well and genuinely listen to each other’s concerns in order to minimize them. We will use each other’s strengths to assign group roles. Anthony will be in charge of posting the updates to WordPress. Jacob’s duty is making the visualizations. Merk will collect the data from the Carleton football website and import it into an excel spreadsheet. Lastly, Ntense will work on cleaning the data. However, we will all work together if someone needs help in a certain area. We look forward to finding out which statistics are most important to winning and what the team’s goals should be.

  1. I like the idea you guys have pitched. I have always been a fan of football more on the professional level but seeing that you guys are analyzing information on Carleton’s football. I wonder what kind of visualization you all have in mind regardless I am excited to see how you turn this data into something people can see!

  2. I like what you mention about disagreements; it’s something that can happen but isn’t something many groups prepare for. I also think it’s good that you all are on the football team and found a project that relates to that interest, as it will make your project more personal and relevant outside of this class.
