Blog 1 – Quote Reflection (Nathan Wang)

“A quote often attributed to Gloria Steinem says: ‘We’ve begun to raise daughters more like sons… but few have the courage to raise our sons more like our daughters.'”

Chachra, “Why I Am Not a Maker,” The Atlantic, 2015.

This quote grabbed my attention because I agree with it. With the rise in male influencers promoting toxic masculinity and power imbalances in relationships, it seems as though societal perspectives on gender roles may be moving in the wrong direction, although it is difficult to tell given social media’s tendency to promote controversial content. I also recently saw a statistic claiming that while teenage women in America are becoming more liberal over time, teenage American males are becoming more conservative, although I am unsure of the validity of this data. It will be interesting to see how the ever-growing influence of social media on society affects people’s behavior, politics, and perspectives. Within DGAH, I am eager to learn more about 3d modeling and mapping as I find digital 3d maps and images interesting.
