This is super cool! I have always enjoyed looking at bar graphs that change over time but have never known how they are created. It is really interesting to see how different artists vary in production from year to year, with some being incredibly prolific for only one or two years before falling off of the graph.
I love the theme and colors you chose for your website! It is very aesthetic and the animated bar graph makes the data visualization pleasant to watch. Your approach to the dataset makes it easy to see the difference in the production of the art pieces the most popular artists had each year.
Your project is really cool! I really like the WordPress theme. I also really like how the graph is animated over time, it is a really engaging way to see how the popularity of each artist changes over time. The growth of the rows is very satisfying to watch, and the switch between leading artists is noticeable.
I really love this visualization, it is clear that over the years many of the same artists were continually contributing to the Tate’s collection whereas others contributed a few pieces in a short span of time. I think that the animated graph really helps you provide the audience with a lot of data using one graph. I also like how you discussed the shortcomings of the visualization specifically its demonstration of only the top 10 contributors.
First, the website has a really nice design! I find it interesting that no artist holds the top spot for long, indicating a great deal of turnover in art exhibits. It’s also not lost on me that in the early 80’s, there were a lot more art pieces in galleries than in successive years. Perhaps this speaks to a slump in public interest in art museums.
