Lab Post 2 Jacob Ventura

I believe humanities students should learn coding because we are entering a world that becomes more and more digital every year. Programming softwares is infiltrating most careers, even ones in the humanities. Coding is becoming such a large part of our world today because itn makes things easier and more advanced. Matthew G. Fischer explains this in his blog post, “Virtual worlds will be to the new century what cinema was to the last one and the novel to the century before that”. He presents the idea that society is always evolving and currently, we are in the age of coding and “virtual worlds”. I have limited coding experience. I completed an introductory computer science course at Carleton where we learned to code in Python. This included a final project where I coded a connect four game. Additionally, I am currently taking an introduction to statistics where I am learning how to program in R.

  1. I think you make a really good point in terms of highlighting the importance of learning coding as a humanities student when you illustrate the ways programming is becoming entrenched in our society. As a society, we are constantly changing, and with that the skills that our society values change. Programming is becoming a highly valued skill and you do a good job demonstrating its importance to students of the humanities.
